FAQ's

FREQUESNTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ: When should I book my senior photos?
Most seniors book 3-12 months before their session date. Popular summer and fall dates often fill first, so booking early gives you the best selection of dates and locations.

FAQ: What time of year is best for senior photos?
Every season offers something different. Summer provides beach and travel opportunities, fall brings beautiful foliage, spring offers blooms and softer colors, and winter can create a unique editorial look.

FAQ: How far in advance should I contact you?
Most families reach out several months before they want to be photographed, especially for summer and fall senior sessions.

FAQ: What if I don't know what type of session I want?
That's completely normal. During our planning process, we'll talk about your personality, interests, style, and goals to help determine which session experience fits you best.

FAQ: Can I include multiple locations?
Yes. Depending on your session type, we can visit one or multiple locations.

FAQ: What happens during the planning meeting?
We'll discuss locations, outfits, timing, your vision, and all the details that will help make your session feel personalized and stress-free.

FAQ: How long does a senior session last?
Session lengths vary by collection, ranging from approximately one hour to several hours.

FAQ: Do you travel?
Absolutely. Travel is one of my favorite parts of creating senior experiences. Many of my sessions take place throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New England.

FAQ: Can I bring inspiration photos?
Yes. Inspiration is helpful and can help us understand the overall style and feeling you're drawn to.

FAQ: What if I have no idea how I want my photos to look?
That's where I come in. I'll guide you through the entire process and help create a session that feels like you.

What should I wear for my senior session?
Wear outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Your senior photos should feel like you, not someone else. Whether your style is trendy, classic, sporty, or somewhere in between, we'll build a wardrobe that reflects your personality and photographs beautifully.

How many outfits should I bring?
That depends on the experience you choose. During your planning meeting, we'll discuss how many outfit changes are included and create a game plan so we can make the most of your session.

Can I wear both casual and dressy outfits?
Absolutely. I actually encourage it! A mix of casual, elevated, and dressier looks creates a gallery with lots of variety and gives you images for everything from social media to graduation announcements and wall art.

How do I choose outfits that photograph well?
During our planning meeting, I'll share plenty of tips to help you put together outfits you'll love. Start by choosing clothing that fits well, makes you feel amazing, and reflects your personal style. Solid colors, layers, textures, and timeless pieces tend to photograph beautifully.

What colors photograph best?
There isn't one perfect color. The best colors are the ones that complement your skin tone, your location, and your personality. Neutrals, earth tones, jewel tones, and soft pastels are always beautiful, but don't be afraid to wear a bold color if it feels like you.

What should I avoid wearing?
Avoid clothing with large logos, distracting graphics, neon colors, or anything that doesn't fit comfortably. The goal is for people to notice you first, not your shirt.

Can I wear patterns?
Yes! Smaller, subtle patterns usually photograph better than large, busy prints. If you're unsure about an outfit, you're always welcome to send me photos before your session.

Should I bring accessories?
Definitely. Hats, jackets, jewelry, sunglasses, scarves, and meaningful accessories can add variety and personality to your images. Sometimes it's the little details that complete the look.

Can I bring my sports uniform, dance costume, or letter jacket?
Of course! Senior year is about celebrating who you are. Whether it's a varsity jacket, dance costume, instrument, or hobby, incorporating those pieces helps tell your story.

What shoes should I bring?
Shoes matter more than most people realize. Bring options that coordinate with each outfit, and don't forget comfortable shoes or sandals for walking between locations if needed.

What if I don't know what looks good on me?
You're not alone. Most seniors aren't professional stylists, and that's why we plan together. I'll help you narrow down your options and choose outfits that photograph beautifully while still feeling like you.

Can I send you outfit options beforehand?
Absolutely! I actually encourage it. Feel free to text or email photos of your outfit ideas before your session. I'm always happy to help you decide between options or make suggestions.

Do you offer outfit guidance?
Yes! Outfit planning is one of my favorite parts of the experience. During your pre-session planning meeting, we'll talk through your wardrobe, your locations, and the overall look you're hoping to create.

Should I get my hair cut before my session?
If you're planning a haircut or trim, I recommend doing it about one to two weeks before your session. That gives it time to settle in and look natural. If you're trying a completely new style, it's usually best to do that well before your session, just in case it's not what you expected.

What should guys wear for senior photos?
Guys don't need an entire new wardrobe. A few well-fitting outfits with a mix of casual and elevated pieces work great. Think clean sneakers, boots, jeans, chinos, button-downs, polos, lightweight layers, and a jacket. If sports are a big part of your story, feel free to bring your uniform or letter jacket too.

Do I need professional hair and makeup?
You certainly don't have to, but I highly recommend it. Professional hair and makeup not only photograph beautifully, but they also help you feel confident and camera-ready. My artists specialize in creating polished, natural looks that still feel like you.

Is professional hair and makeup included?
Professional hair and makeup is included with some experiences and available as an add-on for others. You'll find all of the details on each experience page, and we'll go over your options during your planning meeting.

Will my makeup still look natural?
Absolutely. My goal is for you to look like the very best version of yourself. Professional makeup is applied slightly differently for the camera, but it should never feel heavy or make you look like someone else.

What should I do the week before my session?
Drink plenty of water, get a good night's sleep, moisturize your skin, and avoid trying any new skincare products or treatments. If you're planning a haircut, color, manicure, or brow appointment, schedule it a few days before your session so everything looks fresh.

Should I get a spray tan before my session?
If spray tans are already part of your routine, that's perfectly fine. I just recommend avoiding trying a new product or salon right before your session. A natural, even tan always photographs best.

What if I have acne or skin concerns?
Please don't stress about it. We all have breakouts from time to time. Temporary blemishes will be professionally retouched while still keeping your skin looking natural and like you.

Should I whiten my teeth?
Only if you'd like to! A brighter smile can be nice, but it's certainly not necessary. I recommend avoiding anything too drastic right before your session.

Can you edit blemishes?
Yes. Temporary blemishes, bruises, scratches, and minor distractions are professionally retouched. My editing style is natural and timeless. You'll still look like yourself, just on your very best day.

What if it's windy?
A little breeze can actually create some beautiful movement in your photos. If the weather becomes unsafe or conditions are severe, we'll discuss rescheduling if needed.

What should I bring to my session?
Bring your outfits, shoes, accessories, any meaningful items you'd like to include, water, and anything you'll need for quick touch-ups like lipstick, powder, a brush, or hairspray. I'll send you a complete preparation guide before your session, so you won't have to remember everything on your own.

What if I wear glasses?
No problem! If you wear glasses every day, you should absolutely include them in your photos. If your lenses create glare, we may simply adjust angles or photograph a few images without them as well.

How should I prepare the night before?
Lay out your outfits, pack everything you'll need, charge your phone, and get a good night's sleep. The more prepared you are, the more relaxed you'll feel when your session arrives.

Should I get my nails done?
If you enjoy having your nails done, I recommend scheduling your manicure a day or two before your session. Neutral or classic colors are always a great choice, but whatever you choose should feel like your style.

What should I eat before my session?
Please don't skip meals! Senior sessions can be active, especially if we're exploring multiple locations. Eat a balanced meal beforehand and bring snacks and water if you'll be with me for several hours.

What if I wear contacts?
If you normally wear contacts, they tend to photograph beautifully. If you wear glasses instead, don't worry. We'll make sure you look great either way.

Can I change my hairstyle during my session?
Absolutely. A ponytail, loose curls, a half-up style, or simply changing your part can create a completely different look without taking much time.

What happens if I wake up sick?
Your health comes first. If you're feeling sick, please let me know as soon as possible. We'll work together to reschedule your session so you can look and feel your best.

What if I'm awkward in front of the camera?
Honestly? That's what almost everyone says before their session! The good news is that you don't have to know what you're doing. I'll guide you through everything, from where to stand to what to do with your hands. Before long, you'll stop thinking about the camera and start enjoying the experience.

What if I hate having my picture taken?
You're definitely not alone. In fact, some of my favorite sessions have started with someone telling me exactly that. My job isn't just to take beautiful photos. It's to help you feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident. By the end of the session, most seniors are surprised by how much fun they had.

What if I'm not photogenic?
I don't believe there are unphotogenic people. There are only people who haven't had the right photographer guiding them. Great lighting, thoughtful posing, genuine moments, and helping you feel comfortable make all the difference.

 Do you pose us?
Absolutely! You never have to wonder what to do. I'll guide you through natural poses and movements every step of the way while leaving room for genuine moments that reflect your personality.

Will you tell me exactly what to do?
Yes! I'll coach you through everything, from where to look and how to stand to what to do with your hands. You won't be left guessing.

Can you help me look natural?
Absolutely. My goal isn't stiff or overly posed photos. I'll give you simple direction while encouraging movement and conversation so your images feel relaxed, genuine, and effortless.

What if I'm shy?
That's perfectly okay. You don't have to be outgoing to have incredible senior photos. I take the time to get to know you, help you relax, and create an environment where you can simply be yourself.

What if I feel self-conscious?
Almost everyone has something they're worried about, whether it's their smile, skin, height, or how they photograph. I promise you're not alone. My job is to help you see yourself the way the people who love you already do, and that's often one of the most meaningful parts of the experience.

How do you make seniors feel comfortable?
It starts long before your session. During our planning meeting, we'll get to know each other so you don't feel like you're showing up to spend the day with a stranger. On session day, we'll laugh, chat, explore beautiful locations, and take things one step at a time. Most seniors tell me the nerves disappear within the first few minutes.

Can I see photos during the session?
Of course! I love showing you a few images along the way. Seeing yourself looking amazing is often the moment your confidence really takes off, and it's one of my favorite parts of every session.

Do you photograph guys too?
Absolutely! While every session is personalized, my approach is the same. I want every senior to feel confident, comfortable, and genuinely like themselves. Whether you're into sports, cars, the outdoors, the city, or something completely different, we'll create an experience that reflects who you are.

Do boys need to know how to pose?
Not at all. Most guys tell me they've never had professional photos taken before. I'll guide you through everything in a way that feels relaxed and natural, never stiff or overdone.

What if I don't like my smile?
You don't have to force a smile for every photo. Some of the strongest portraits come from genuine laughter, relaxed expressions, or simply being in the moment. I'll help you find what feels most natural for you.

What if I don't know what to do with my hands?
You're in good company! It's probably the question I hear most often. Don't worry. I'll guide you through every pose and movement so you'll never be wondering where your hands should go.

Will you photograph my "good side?"
Absolutely! Everyone has angles they naturally prefer, and part of my job is learning what photographs you best. I'll use flattering lighting, angles, and posing throughout your session.

What if I'm nervous?
Being nervous is completely normal. Almost every senior arrives feeling a little anxious, and almost every one of them leaves saying, "That was actually so much fun!" My goal is for you to walk away with more confidence than you had when you arrived.

What if I laugh a lot?
Perfect! Those genuine laughs often become the favorite photos in your gallery. Some of the best moments happen in between the poses.

Can I bring someone who makes me feel comfortable?
Absolutely! Parents are always welcome, and if your experience allows, bringing a best friend or sibling can sometimes help you relax and enjoy the day even more. This is why Best Friend Sessions are one of the favorites!

How do we choose a location?
We'll choose a location together based on your personality, style, interests, and the overall vision for your senior photos. During your planning meeting, we'll talk through ideas and create a session that feels uniquely you.

Can I choose my own location?
Absolutely! If you have a place that's meaningful to you or somewhere you've always dreamed of being photographed, I'd love to hear your ideas. Some of my favorite sessions have taken place in locations chosen by my seniors.

What are your favorite senior portrait locations?
I have lots of favorites! Newport, Boston, Cape Cod, Newburyport, and Lake Winnipesaukee are some of my most requested destinations, but I also love discovering new places. Whether you're dreaming of beaches, city streets, gardens, historic architecture, mountains, or open fields, we'll find the perfect backdrop.

Can we go to the beach?
Of course! Beaches are some of my favorite places to photograph seniors. Whether you're envisioning sandy dunes, rocky coastlines, grassy paths, or dramatic sunsets, there are so many beautiful options throughout New England.

Can we do photos in a city?
Absolutely! City sessions have such a fun editorial feel. From cobblestone streets and charming alleyways to waterfronts and modern architecture, city locations create a timeless, fashion-inspired look.

What if I want somewhere unique?
I love unique locations! If you have an idea, let's talk about it. Whether it's a flower farm, bookstore, coffee shop, rooftop, marina, greenhouse, or somewhere completely unexpected, I'm always excited to create something different.

Can we photograph at my high school?
Definitely! Your high school is part of your story. We can incorporate meaningful locations like the stadium, theater, dance studio, gym, or other places that helped shape your high school experience.

Can we photograph on private property?
Yes, as long as we have permission from the property owner. If permits or special arrangements are needed, we'll discuss those during the planning process.

What if I want a destination session?
Let's do it! My Wanderlust Experience was created for seniors who want to turn their portrait session into an unforgettable adventure. Whether we're exploring a favorite New England destination or traveling somewhere new, we'll create an experience that's every bit as memorable as the photos themselves.

Do I need permits for certain locations?
Some locations require photography permits or reservations. If they're needed, I'll guide you through the process and help coordinate everything.

What time of day do you photograph?
Most sessions take place during the hour or two before sunset, often called "golden hour." The light is softer, more flattering, and creates that beautiful glow you see throughout my portfolio.

Can we do a sunrise session?
Absolutely! Sunrise sessions offer beautiful light, cooler temperatures, and quieter locations. They're especially great for beaches and popular destinations before the crowds arrive.

What happens if it rains?
If the forecast calls for significant rain or severe weather, we'll simply reschedule. I always want you to have the best possible experience, and sometimes Mother Nature has other plans.

How far do you travel?
I photograph seniors throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New England, and I love traveling for destination sessions. Travel is included with some experiences, and additional travel options are always available if you have a special location in mind.

Can we visit more than one location?
Yes! Depending on the experience you choose, we may have time to explore multiple locations. This adds variety to your gallery and allows us to create several different looks throughout your session.

What if I have no idea where I want to go?
You're in good hands! Part of my job is helping you discover the perfect location. I'll ask about your style, interests, favorite colors, and the overall vibe you're hoping for, then recommend locations that fit your vision.

Do you photograph outside of Massachusetts?
Absolutely! Some of my favorite senior sessions have taken place throughout New England. Whether you're dreaming of the Rhode Island coast, the mountains of New Hampshire, or another special destination, I'd love to help make it happen.

Can we include meaningful places from my life?
Yes! Maybe it's your family's lake house, your grandparents' property, your favorite hiking trail, your dance studio, or the beach you've visited every summer. Locations with personal meaning often make the most memorable images.

Will my location affect the style of my photos?
Definitely. Every location brings its own personality. A beach creates a relaxed, coastal feel. A city adds an editorial vibe. Gardens feel romantic, while mountains and open fields create something timeless and adventurous. Choosing the right location helps tell your story.

Do you scout locations ahead of time?
Whenever possible, yes. I regularly photograph at many of my favorite locations and know how the light changes throughout the day. If we're visiting somewhere new, I'll often research or scout the area so we can make the most of our time together.

Can parents come to the session?
Absolutely! Parents are always welcome, and I ask that at least one parent or guardian is there for the session. Most choose to come along. Some enjoy watching from the sidelines, while others help carry outfits, keep track of accessories, or simply soak in the experience. There's no right or wrong way to participate.

Should I stay for the entire session?
That's completely up to you and your senior. While I prefer that a parent or guardian stay and are part of the senior's experience, some seniors love having their parents there the whole time, while others become a little more relaxed once Mom or Dad steps back. I encourage you to do whatever helps your senior feel the most comfortable and confident.

Can siblings or grandparents come too?
Immediate family members are welcome, but I recommend keeping the group small so the focus stays on your senior. If you'd like to include additional family members or take a few family portraits, just let me know during the planning process.

Can we include family photos?
Absolutely! Family portraits are a wonderful way to celebrate this season together. If you have booked senior portraits with me, you are invited to a mini family session in either the fall or spring of senior year. You will receive an email when I announce the dates and location. Additionally, if you would like to take one quick family photo on the day of your senior portrait session, that is great! But, just a quickie!... that day is meant to be focused on your senior.

Can parents help choose the images?
Of course! Parents are encouraged to be part of the ordering and design process. I love helping families choose the images and products they'll enjoy for years to come.

What if my senior is nervous?
That's completely normal, and honestly, it's one of the things I hear most often. My goal is to help every senior feel comfortable and confident. Most arrive with a few nerves and leave saying they had so much fun.

My teenager doesn't like having their picture taken. Will this still work?
Yes! (Ahem, Boy Moms...) In fact, many of my favorite sessions begin with a senior who insists they don't like being photographed. I don't expect anyone to know how to pose or feel instantly comfortable. I guide them every step of the way, and before long, they're laughing, relaxing, and enjoying the experience.

Will my child actually look like themselves?
Absolutely. My editing style is natural and timeless. No fake-looking photoshopped retouching here.  I'll professionally retouch temporary blemishes and distractions, but I never want someone to look like a different person. I want your senior to recognize themselves and love what they see.

How involved are parents during the planning process?
As much or as little as you'd like to be. Some families plan everything together, while others let their senior take the lead. I'm happy to communicate with both parents and seniors throughout the process so everyone feels informed and excited.

What if we don't know where to start?
That's exactly why I offer a planning meeting before every session. We'll talk through locations, outfits, timing, and all the little details so you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

Why should we invest in professional senior portraits?
Senior year only happens once. These portraits become more meaningful with each passing year, preserving not just what your senior looked like, but who they were during one of life's biggest milestones. Long after graduation, they'll become part of your family's story.

Will my senior have fun?
Is this even a question? Heck Yes!! I certainly hope so, because that's the goal! This is so much more than taking pictures. It's a day filled with music, conversation, exploring beautiful places, and celebrating your senior. Many parents tell me they're surprised by how much their teen enjoyed the experience.

What happens after the session?
Once your images are professionally edited, we'll meet for your image premiere. Together, we'll relive the experience, view your gallery for the first time, and design your album and artwork so you can enjoy these memories for generations.

How long does the entire process take?
From booking to receiving your finished products, the timeline varies depending on your session date and product selections. I'll guide you through every step, keep you informed along the way, and make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Do senior portraits really matter?
As a parent, it's easy to think you're simply checking another item off the senior-year to-do list. But years from now, these photographs often become some of your family's most treasured keepsakes. They capture not only how your child looked, but who they were during this once-in-a-lifetime season. More than once, I've watched moms and dads tear up as they saw their senior's images for the first time. It's a reminder that this chapter is coming to a close, and a beautiful way to preserve it forever.

A Note to Parents

Senior year only happens once. Your photos should be worthy of it.

Today, everyone has a camera in their pocket. Technology has made it easier than ever to take a beautiful photo, and there are more options for senior portraits than ever before.

But years from now, when you're looking back at this chapter of your child's life, you'll want more than a collection of images. You'll want to remember who they were. The way they laughed. The confidence they were beginning to grow into. Their interests, their personality, their style, and all the little things that made them uniquely themselves during this brief season between childhood and adulthood.

That's why I believe senior portraits should be about more than showing up, smiling at a camera, and calling it a day. I  offer, exactly what I would want for me and my own children. Before we ever step in front of the lens, I take the time to get to know your senior and design an experience around who they are right now, like they are my own. The result is a session that feels personal, memorable, and genuinely fun, along with timeless portraits that will become more meaningful with every passing year.

I'm not the cheap photographer. I know.

I've always felt that senior portraits should be about preserving more than what someone looked like. Now, as a parent, I understand that even more. My son (above) has graduated high school, college, and graduate school, and I still look back at the portraits I took of him during his senior year. (I can only imagine what it will be like in a few years with my daughters!) Every time I see his photos, I'm reminded of who he was then, and I'm in awe of the thoughtful, accomplished young man he continues to become.

I'll be candid with you: I'm not the lowest-priced photographer, nor do I strive to be. What I offer goes far beyond a quick photo session. It's a carefully crafted experience and an investment in preserving a moment you'll never get back.
